Pregnancy risks greater in women with pre-existing diabetes

Pregnancy risks greater in women with pre-existing diabetesIn a new study published in the journal Diabetologia scientists once more confirmed that risk of fetal and infant death is significantly greater in women with pre-existing diabetes.

Researchers in Newcastle University in England reviewed the data of 1206 women with type 1 diabetes and 342 women with type 2 diabetes and calculated that fetal death was more than 4 times more common in mothers with pre-existing diabetes, and the infant death was twice as common. There was no difference in the rate of fetal or infant death between women with type 1 diabetes and women with type 2 diabetes.
