A Slate article reports on the harassment, intimidation and threats to abortion providers. Though well
known, the article cites a study conducted by the Feminist Majority Foundation which examined the
personal targeting of abortion providers; the 2014 National Clinic Violence Survey, tallied the responses
of 242 abortion providers from around the country and found such incidences have been rising
precipitously.

These tactics run the gamut of threatening and intimidating actions, including,
harassment of provider’s children, threatening phone calls and letters, protests at physicians’ and
nurses’ homes, etc. The article reports that though only about 1 in 90 providers have stopped providing
services because of such tactics, many have taken life altering protective measures, including changes to
living and commuting arrangements, gun ownership, and bullet proof vests. Eight abortion providers
have been murdered.
