New Alabama Law Will Target Abortion Clinics Like Sex Offenders

Dalton Johnson, owner of Huntsville’s Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives, in Trapped.

In other example of targeted regulations against abortion providers (TRAP) laws being enacted, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley signed a bill which would prohibit Alabama health officials from issuing or renewing the licenses of facilities providing abortions within 2,000 feet of public schools.

This novel approach to further restricting access to abortion services would, if upheld in court, reduce the number of abortion facilities in the entire state of Alabama to three. Two of the potentially effected clinics provide about 72% of states abortion services. One of these facilities had just relocated to the current location in an effort to comply with building codes stipulated by prior a TRAP law.
